Care staff for services in Birmingham
We recruit care and support staff for care homes, nursing homes, home care, supported living and children’s homes across Birmingham.
Birmingham is a big, young city: the local NHS describes it as the most youthful core city in Europe, and Skills for Care estimated around 35,000 posts in its adult social care in 2024/25.
Who regulates care in Birmingham
Birmingham’s care services are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and its children’s homes with Ofsted. For every worker we put forward in the city, we check identity and right to work, an enhanced DBS check with the adults’ or children’s barred list, and references from recent care work.
For children’s homes we also ask each previous employer where the person worked with children why that job ended.
- Care regulator
- Care Quality Commission (CQC) for adult social care. Ofsted registers and inspects children’s homes.
- Criminal record checks
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Care roles are usually checked at enhanced level, with the adults’ or children’s barred list where the work is regulated activity.
- Workforce register
- No national register for care workers. Nurses are on the NMC register, and social workers must be registered with Social Work England.
- Councils

- Birmingham City Council
- Birmingham Children’s Trust, for children’s social care
- NHS integrated care board

Care services in Birmingham
Birmingham City Council runs adult social care, while children’s social care is provided by Birmingham Children’s Trust. Government-appointed commissioners have worked with the council since October 2023; their third report, published in December 2025, described adult social care as managing relatively stable finances with a small underspend forecast.
NHS Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care Board remains its own legal body, but it is clustered with NHS Black Country as NHS Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull, with a shared chair, chief executive and joint board, and it says this is not a formal merger. University Hospitals Birmingham runs Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull hospitals.
Skills for Care estimated that 27 per cent of Birmingham’s adult social care workforce was on zero-hours contracts in 2024/25. West Midlands Metro trams link Birmingham with Wolverhampton via West Bromwich, Wednesbury and Bilston, and the M42 serves the east of the metropolitan area.
Between May and November 2025, the average wait for services to start was 17 hours for homecare, three and a half days for nursing care, four and a half days for residential care and 10 days for supported living, according to data the council gave the CQC. The council told the CQC that recruiting and keeping support workers remained a key priority, and it checks that providers who recruit internationally act within the law and as ethical employers.
