Who regulates care in Coventry

Coventry care services are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and children’s homes with Ofsted. Before we introduce anyone to a Coventry service, we check identity and right to work, an enhanced DBS check with the right barred list, references from recent care employers and training records.

For nursing and complex care, we also check each nurse’s NMC registration and the clinical training the placement needs.

Care regulator
Care Quality Commission (CQC) for adult social care. Ofsted registers and inspects children’s homes.
Criminal record checks
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Care roles are usually checked at enhanced level, with the adults’ or children’s barred list where the work is regulated activity.
Workforce register
No national register for care workers. Nurses are on the NMC register, and social workers must be registered with Social Work England.

Care services in Coventry

Coventry City Council’s market position statement for 2024 to 2029 reports challenges in sourcing care and support for people with long-term high-level nursing or more complex needs, and in achieving a balance of international and local care staff.

NHS Coventry and Warwickshire Integrated Care Board works through four place partnerships, one of them for Coventry, and expects growth in Coventry’s over-65 population to accelerate and outpace other groups within 10 to 15 years.

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire runs two major hospitals, in Coventry and Rugby, which between them serve a population of over a million people. The M69 links the M1 near Leicester with junction 2 of the M6 near Coventry.

In the CQC’s assessment of Coventry City Council, published in May 2026, a survey of care providers found that recruiting staff was the highest priority concern for care homes, followed by staff retention and running costs. Council data showed consistent vacancies in supported living for people with mental health needs and people with learning disabilities, and 10 embargoes on home care and supported living services against 1 on residential and nursing homes.

The council has market development plans for mental health, learning disability and autism, older people, and physical and sensory impairment, with a supported living and day opportunities framework alongside its homecare framework.

Questions from managers in Coventry

Can you staff complex care or high-level nursing in Coventry?

Yes, where we have the right people. Tell us about the clinical needs, and we offer nurses and senior carers whose training and references match, with NMC checks for every nurse.

Do all your workers have the right to work in the UK?

Yes. Everyone we put forward must already have the right to work in the UK, and we check it from original documents or the Home Office online service before any introduction.

Can you help us fill supported living vacancies in Coventry?

Yes. Tell us about the people you support and the rota. The council has recorded consistent vacancies in supported living for people with mental health needs and learning disabilities, so we look for support workers with that experience and match them to the person.
