Care services in Nottingham

Nottingham City Council runs social care in the city, and Nottinghamshire County Council in the rest of the county. A July 2026 decision to create two new unitary councils was paused in September 2026, and the East Midlands combined county authority area was given established mayoral strategic authority status in July 2026.

NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board is clustered with the Derby and Derbyshire and Lincolnshire boards, sharing a chair and chief executive while remaining separate legal bodies. In the city it works through the Nottingham City Place-Based Partnership.

Nottingham University Hospitals, which runs the Queen’s Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, has around 20,000 colleagues and describes itself as the largest employer in Nottinghamshire. Skills for Care counted about 27,000 filled posts and 2,200 vacancies in the county’s adult social care in 2024/25.

The NET tram system runs for 20 miles across Nottingham, and the city is close to the M1 and to the A52 and A46.

In its March 2026 assessment of Nottinghamshire County Council, the CQC described a large county care market of over 300 nursing and residential care home providers, 106 community support enablement providers, 46 day opportunity providers and 39 home-based care providers. The council has estimated that the care workforce needs to grow by 28 per cent by 2035, and its staff were aware of shortages of nursing care with mental health support in some of the more deprived parts of the county.

Questions from managers in Nottingham

Do you cover the county as well as the city?

Yes. Tell us the town and the shifts. Nottinghamshire County Council runs social care outside the city, and the same CQC rules and checks apply.

Can your workers get to us by tram?

Some can. Tell us your nearest NET stop and the shift times, and we offer workers who can reach you for the start.

Can you find RMNs for a Nottinghamshire nursing home?

Yes, for temporary cover and permanent posts. The county council has noted shortages of nursing care with mental health support in some areas, so we look for RMNs within reach of your home and check each one on the NMC register.
