Care staff for services in Sutton

We recruit care and support staff for care homes, nursing homes, home care and supported living in the London Borough of Sutton, next door to our office in Thornton Heath.

Sutton’s care market leans towards nursing care, and its home care rota is hardest to fill in the evenings, so we plan cover around both.

Who regulates care in Sutton

Sutton’s care services are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and its children’s homes with Ofsted. Before we introduce anyone to a Sutton service, we check identity and right to work, an enhanced DBS check with the barred list the role needs, two references including the latest care employer, and training records.

Because so many of the borough’s beds are nursing beds, we check each nurse’s NMC registration, the date their revalidation is due and any conditions on their practice.

Care regulator
Care Quality Commission (CQC) for adult social care. Ofsted registers and inspects children’s homes.
Criminal record checks
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Care roles are usually checked at enhanced level, with the adults’ or children’s barred list where the work is regulated activity.
Workforce register
No national register for care workers. Nurses are on the NMC register, and social workers must be registered with Social Work England.
Council
  • London Borough of Sutton
NHS integrated care board
  • NHS South West London Integrated Care Board
  • Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust

Care services in Sutton

The council’s market position statement counts 74 CQC-registered care homes in the borough, and about three quarters of the care home beds for older people are nursing beds.

The same statement says that recruiting and keeping enough home care staff across the borough’s 13 home care patches remains difficult, and the council supports the London Living Wage. The CQC’s assessment of the council, published in November 2025, found that evening home care was hard to source.

Skills for Care estimated staff turnover in Sutton’s adult social care at 31.0 per cent in 2024/25, against a London average of 19.9 per cent, and a vacancy rate of 13.0 per cent.

The council lists Morden, on the Northern line, and Wimbledon, on the District line, as the nearest Tube stations, so most workers reach Sutton services by rail, bus or car. Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust runs St Helier Hospital and Epsom Hospital, serving over 490,000 people in south west London and north east Surrey.

The CQC’s 2025 report noted that price differences between home care providers were affecting quality, training, recruitment and retention, and that the council was moving towards a patch-based, outcome-focused home care framework built on reablement. Sutton also works with its neighbours through the South West London Adult Social Care Workforce Programme, whose advertising campaign brought an additional 100 people into the social care workforce.

Questions from managers in Sutton

Can you find home care workers for evening calls in Sutton?

Yes. Evening calls are the hardest part of Sutton’s home care rota, as the CQC found in 2025, so we look for workers who want evening work and live near the patch.

We’re a nursing home in Sutton. Can you help with nurses?

Yes. Most of Sutton’s care home beds for older people are nursing beds, and we recruit RGNs and RMNs for temporary cover and permanent posts, with NMC checks first.

How do your workers get to Sutton without the Tube?

The council lists Morden and Wimbledon, both outside the borough, as the nearest Tube stations, so most workers reach Sutton services by train, bus or car. We check how each worker will get to you before we offer them a shift.
