Care staff for services in Leeds

We recruit care and support staff for care homes, nursing homes, home care and supported living across Leeds, for temporary cover and permanent posts.

Leeds is more than a big city: the district takes in large rural and semi-rural communities of historic market towns and villages, so home care here ranges from city-centre runs to rural rounds.

Who regulates care in Leeds

Care services in Leeds are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and children’s homes with Ofsted. Before we introduce anyone, we check identity and right to work, an enhanced DBS check with the right barred list, and references from the worker’s recent care employers.

For dementia care and nursing, we also check dementia training and each nurse’s NMC registration.

Care regulator
Care Quality Commission (CQC) for adult social care. Ofsted registers and inspects children’s homes.
Criminal record checks
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Care roles are usually checked at enhanced level, with the adults’ or children’s barred list where the work is regulated activity.
Workforce register
No national register for care workers. Nurses are on the NMC register, and social workers must be registered with Social Work England.
Council

Care services in Leeds

The CQC’s assessment of Leeds City Council, published in October 2025, found the council working with over 160 homecare providers on its framework, and setting homecare fees so that providers can pay their staff above the real living wage. It also noted a need for more nursing dementia provision in the city.

Leeds is the host authority for the Yorkshire and Humber regional project for ethical international recruitment in adult social care.

Health and care in the city are planned through the Leeds Health and Care Partnership, part of the West Yorkshire Health and Care Partnership, and NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board covers Bradford district and Craven, Calderdale, Kirklees, Leeds and Wakefield. Leeds Teaching Hospitals, with seven hospitals on five sites, is one of the largest and busiest acute trusts in Europe.

The same report found adequate capacity in the home care market, with most referrals met within 5 days of reaching the council’s brokerage team, and no embargoes or placements handed back in supported living, residential care or nursing care. Council staff saw gaps in services for people with multiple care needs and dementia nursing needs.

Leeds home care providers are signed up to the Ethical Care Charter, and council staff have collected payslips and challenged providers to make sure care workers are paid properly for travel and training.

Questions from managers in Leeds

Can you staff a nursing home that supports people living with dementia?

Yes. The CQC’s 2025 report noted a need for more nursing dementia provision in Leeds. We look for nurses and senior carers with dementia experience and check their training before they are offered.

Do your home care workers drive to the villages?

Some do. Tell us the postcodes on the run, and we offer drivers where the route needs one.

How is travel time paid on a Leeds home care run?

For workers we supply, travel between visits counts as working time for the minimum wage, and we explain how it is paid before a worker accepts a run. Leeds takes this seriously: the council has checked payslips to make sure staff are paid for travel.
