Care staff for services in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
We recruit care and support staff for care homes, nursing homes, home care and supported living across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
Outside central Cambridge, care can be hard to arrange: the county council’s market position statement singles out rural Fenland, East Cambridgeshire and South Cambridgeshire, where public transport connections are poor.
Who regulates care in Cambridgeshire
Care services in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough are registered with the Care Quality Commission, and children’s homes with Ofsted. Before we introduce anyone, we check identity and right to work, an enhanced DBS check with the right barred list, references from recent care employers and training records.
For rural home care runs, we also check that drivers hold a licence and insurance that covers driving for work.
- Care regulator
- Care Quality Commission (CQC) for adult social care. Ofsted registers and inspects children’s homes.
- Criminal record checks
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). Care roles are usually checked at enhanced level, with the adults’ or children’s barred list where the work is regulated activity.
- Workforce register
- No national register for care workers. Nurses are on the NMC register, and social workers must be registered with Social Work England.

Care services in Cambridgeshire
NHS Central East Integrated Care Board was established on 1 April 2026 and covers Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire, Milton Keynes and Peterborough, about 3.5 million people. Cambridge University Hospitals runs Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie, and North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust runs Peterborough City, Hinchingbrooke and Stamford and Rutland hospitals.
Skills for Care estimated staff turnover in Cambridgeshire’s adult social care at 28.6 per cent in 2024/25, above the regional average of 23.6 per cent. In Peterborough the vacancy rate was 8.8 per cent and turnover 33.8 per cent, both above regional and England rates.
The county council’s 2024 market position statement describes rural locations such as East and South Cambridgeshire and rural Fenland as particularly challenging because of the lack of public transport connections. In July 2026 the government gave Cambridgeshire and Peterborough established mayoral strategic authority status, and the two councils keep responsibility for social care.
The CQC’s assessment of the county council, published in August 2025, found that it supported international recruitment in its provider market, including by linking providers and workers together, and had developed an international recruitment app. Staff told the CQC they were developing services in Fenland, where deprivation is high, including a new bus scheme to help with rural travel.
In Peterborough, the city council’s market position statement names building a resilient workforce, more dementia residential and nursing care, more respite care and more learning disability services as areas of focus, and the council has a five-year Provider Workforce support plan.

Questions from managers in Cambridgeshire
Can you staff home care runs in Fenland?
Yes, with drivers. Rural Fenland is one of the areas the county council names as hard to cover because of poor public transport, so we offer workers who drive and whose insurance covers driving for work.
Which NHS body covers Peterborough now?
NHS Central East Integrated Care Board, established on 1 April 2026, which also covers Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes.
Can you help a Peterborough home with dementia nursing care?
Yes. Peterborough’s market position statement names dementia residential and nursing care as an area to grow, and we recruit nurses and senior carers with dementia experience, checking their training and NMC registration first.
